Istanbul Conference Discusses Social Role of Muslim Women

The Conference on Role of Women in Changing Muslim Societies, organized by the Turkish Ministry of Family Affairs and Social Policies in Coordination with the PUIC and OIC held in Istanbul Republic of Turkey on 23 – 24 December, 2011. The Conference was under the patronage of H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Prime Minister of Turkey, who delivered the Inaugural Session an exhaustive speech.  In it he addressed the position of Woman in Islam and called for paying attention to women affairs in our contemporary Muslim societies, as well as her participation in social development.
H.E. the PUIC Secretary General was the first speaker to address the Conference.  He praised the idea of the Conference characterizing it as the first of its kind to allow both the PUIC and the OIC to participate in organizing such an important meeting.  He stated that it was a successful experiment on cooperation and wider practical organizations, and that they are complementary to each other playing legislative and executive roles, respectively.
His Excellency referred to the PUIC organized conference aimed at discussing issues of Muslim women, as well as future meetings which will be organized by the PUIC in this respect.
His Excellency PUIC Secretary General participated in all the proceedings of the Conference.  He was the moderator of the session dedicated to ministers responsible for women affairs in OIC Member States.
The inaugural session was also addressed by OIC Secretary General Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, and Mrs. Fatma Sahin, Minister of Family Affairs and Social Policies in the Republic of Turkey.
