STATEMENT OF THE BUREAU
OF THE NATIONAL PEOPLES COUNCIL
ON THE AGGRESSION ON GAZA

The Bureau of the National Peoples Council of Algeria held a meeting under the chairmanship of Mr. Abdul Aziz Zayyari, Speaker of the Council, on Sunday 4th January 2009, and unanimously issued the following statement:

While the world is celebrating the advent of the new Hijri Year and the new Gregorian year, Israel is proceeding for more than one week to commit the most vicious and horrific crimes against the unarmed Palestinian people. It is launching the most savage attacks of genocide resulting in hundreds of martyrs and injured people.

In this onslaught, Israel is using all kinds of lethal and internationally-banned weapons, following a strangling, unprecedented blockade that has paralysed vital installations and caused the death of hundreds of people due to the lack of medicine, food and the simple essentials of living. This situation is unfolding under the eyes and hearing of the entire world, and at a time of much talking about human rights and the values of freedom and democracy. However , when it comes to the legitimate Palestinian human rights, a policy of double standards is given precedence and there are calls to equate between the executioner and the victim,

While following up the tragic and grave situation consequential to the savagery of the crime and the barbarity of the devastation of several places in Gaza, the National People’s Council strongly denounces the abhorrent massacres which are committed by Israel, driven by blind bellicosity and sanguine terrorism. It decries the silence and connivance of international organizations vis-a-vis the inhuman Israeli excesses. The Council stresses its absolute solidarity with the brotherly Palestinian people in this cruel plight. It prays to God to shower the martyrs with His mercy, give solace to their families and grant speedy recovery to the wounded.
