The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia expresses grave concern on the recently announced of the United States of America (US) unilateral proclamation recognizing the City of Jerusalem as the so-called capital of Israel. Indonesia strongly condemns the decision as well as the decision to relocate the US Embassy to Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. These actions are unacceptable and constitute a threat to the future of peace between Israel - Palestine.
The House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia underlines that the US unilateral proclamation on Jerusalem is against any international law and norms including the UN Security Council Resolution 242 (1967), 252 (1968), 476 (1980), 478 (1980) and the UN General Assembly Resolution 181 (II) and therefore, we confirm, in line with the relevant UN Security Council resolution , that the US unilateral proclamation as well as any unilateral legislative and administrative measures that seek to alter the character and status of Jerusalem are invalid, null and void.
The House of Representatives guided by the fundamental principle of the Preamble of 1945 Constitution of the State of the Republic of Indonesia which explicitly rejecting all forms of colonialism/occupation consistently supports the inalienable rights of Palestinian to determine their right of self-determination and the establishment of their independent and sovereign Palestinian State in accordance to the 1967 borderline with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The House of Representatives welcomes the Organization of Islamic Conference Extraordinary Summit held in Istanbul, Turkey, 13 December 2017 outcomes which declare East Jerusalem as the capital of the State Palestine. We welcome the international consensus rejecting the US administration proclamation on Jerusalem status and urge for global movement to strongly reject the US unilateral action on the status of the Holy City of Jerusalem.
The House of Representatives also welcomes the consideration of the UN Security Council to vote on a draft resolution regarding the Status of Jerusalem which will strengthen other relevant UN Security Council Resolutions regarding any decisions and actions which purport to have altered the character, status or demographic composition of the Holy City of Jerusalem to have no legal effect, are null and void.
The House of Representatives reaffirms its commitment to the peace process of Israel - Palestine with 1967 borderline and East Jerusalem as the Palestinian border and capital. We urge international community to remain committed in pursuing peace process of Israel
- Palestine, with two-state solution and the determination of Jerusalem final status through peace negotiation and diplomacy. The House of Representatives urges the US, should it continue to take an active role to sponsor the Israel - Palestine peace process, to withdraw their unilateral proclamation on the status of Jerusalem.
The issue of Palestine is at the heart of our people. Therefore, the House of Representatives is committed to and fully supports the Government of Indonesia in exercising its diplomatic role to pursue peace and stability in the Middle East in particular to the situation of Israel - Palestine. Our “1712" rally was the biggest public action held to denounce the US unilateral proclamation on Jerusalem. This is the aspiration of the 261 millions of Indonesians: that we are remaining strong to stand by with the Palestinian people. We will remain and committed to take any actions in support of the Palestinian cause.
The House of Representatives committed to fully exercise its parliamentary diplomacy role through inter-parliamentary fora such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (A PPF), ASEAN Inter Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States (PUIC) , among others and under bilateral groups to garner greater support to defend the Palestinian from unjust and unfair treatment by the occupying power and its allies.
