The PUIC Secretary General H.E. Prof. Mahmud Erol KILIC took part in the (2011 Parliamentary Hearing) which was held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, USA, on 28-29 November 2011.
The event was entitled “Strengthening Political Accountability for a More Peaceful and Prosperous World”.
The participants discussed the following aspects relating to the theme:
• The role of the United Nations General Assembly in strengthening global accountability;
• Youth participation in the democratic process – challenges and opportunities;
• Accountability in the management of public funds – good practices and model legislation for budget transparency;
• Strengthening the links between national institutions and civil society – toward more open societies.
The United Nations Secretary General, the President of the UN General Assembly and the President of the IPU welcomed the participants at the opening of the proceedings.
Members of parliaments, senior UN officials, members of the diplomatic corps and experts took part in the discussions.
