REPORT OF THE 5th SESSION OF THE STANDING SPECIALIZED COMMITTEE ON POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC AFFAIRS,

ABU DHABI – STATE OF THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

1.    The Standing  Specialized Committee on Political and Economic Affairs held its 5th Meeting in Abu Dhabi, State of the United Arab Emirates, on 16-17 January 2011, under the chairmanship of the Committee Rapporteur, H.E. Dr. Ahmed Hajji, representative of the Assembly of Counselors, Kingdom of Morocco.

2.    The Meeting was attended by their Excellencies:

For Arab Group:
•    H.E. Mr. Nuruddin Mezian- Kingdom of Morocco
•    H.E. Mr. Mubarak Khoranj - State of Kuwait
•    H.E. Mr. Faisal Abu Shahla - State of Palestine
•    H.E. Hon. Mr. Kotby Mahdy, Republic  of Sudan
               
For Asian Group:
•    H.E. Mr. Irfan Gunduz - Republic of Turkey
•    H.E. Mr. Abdul Rahman Abdullah - Republic of Indonesia
•    H.E. Mr. Sabir Rustum Khani- Republic of Azerbaijan

From this group, the representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran was absent.

For the African Group:
•    H.E. Mr. Mastang Seyi Mama – Republic of  Cameroon
•    H.E. Mr. Léon-Paul Mvouba Okori - Republic of Gabon
•    H.E. Mr. Moussa Cisse - Republic  of Mali

From this group, the representative Uganda was absent.
   
The Meeting was also attended by a number of delegates as observers, namely:
•    H.E. Mr. Maghram Al Ghami – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
•    H.E. Mr. Abdullah Al Sheikh Ismail – Republic of Somalia
•    H.E. Mr. Ahmed Mustapha Al-Ghadah – Hashemite King of Jordan
•    H.E. Mr. Hassan Al- Saqqa – Syrian Arab Republic
•    H.E. Mr. Mohammad Nagib Ahmed- Republic of Yemen

3.    Ambassador Ali Asghar Mohammadi, PUIC Assistant Secretary General, represented the General Secretariat.  He welcomed the Members of the Committee on behalf of the Secretary General.

4.    The Meeting reviewed the agenda and discussed its 19 political affairs items as well as two economic items. The discussion included interventions by the Members which finally resulted in the adoption of the following resolutions which are to be submitted to the August PUIC Council.
