PUIC Secretary General: US Veto against Full Palestinian Membership in the UN Challenges International Will

On Thursday, 18 April 2024, the UN Security Council voted on a resolution granting the Palestinian state full membership in the United Nations. The resolution was voted in favour by 12 countries, abstained by two, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and vetoed by the USA.

His Excellency Mr. Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass, Secretary General of Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, denounces the denial of Palestine's legitimate right to full membership of the United Nations, which is guaranteed by the Charter of the United Nations and upheld by the UN resolutions adopted on the Palestinian cause.

He believes that there can be neither peace nor stability in the Middle East region, nor in the world for that matter, without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

The failure of the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution recognising the Palestinian State comes at a time when the Palestinian people have been subjected to a genocidal war waged by the Zionist entity for the past seven months, which the UN has been unable to contain.
