Islamic Group Meeting Supports South Africa

The Consultation Meeting of the Islamic Group was held on the sidelines of the 148th Assembly of the Inter parliamentary Union (IPU) at the Conference Center, in Geneva, Switzerland, on Saturday morning 23 March 2024.

The Meeting was chaired by H.E. Mr. Adama Bictogo, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire, PUIC Sessional President. Parliamentary delegations from a number of states of PUIC Member Parliaments participated in the meeting.

At the beginning, H.E. Mr. Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass, the PUIC Secretary General, delivered a brief speech reviewing the agenda of the consultation Meeting.

Then H.E. Mr. Adama Bictogo, Speaker of the Ivorian National Assembly, PUIC President took the floor. He emphasized the necessity of the unity of ranks, especially at these critical circumstances facing the Islamic World.

He also requested the attendees to take a unified stance vis-a- vis the emergency item of the agenda of the IPU Meeting.

The representatives of the following countries took the floor:

Republic of Algeria, Kingdom of Bahrain, Bangladesh, Arab Republic of Egypt, Republic of Indonesia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Iraq, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Malaysia, Kingdom of Morocco, State of Palestine, Republic of Pakistan, State of Qatar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Republic of Tunisia, Republic of Türkiye, Republic of Uganda, and United Arab Emirates.

The attendees expressed their strong condemnation of the aggression of the Zionist Entity, and focused on the unity of ranks in approving the emergency item concerning the developments in Gaza.

The Indonesia, and Malaysia delegations expressed their readiness to withdraw their proposals, in favor of the proposal of South Africa. The Consultation Meeting approved to support South Africa.
