Their Excellencies the Speakers of the Following Member Parliaments participated in the meeting: UAE, Qatar, Yemen, Palestine as well as the Deputy Speaker of the Algerian National People’s Assembly representing H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Boughali, Speaker of the Assembly. A number of the representatives of PUIC Parliaments also participated in the meeting.
All attendees welcomed this important Parliamentary forum in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and praised the good organization and warm reception.
The meeting focused on supporting the Qatari proposal in the context of the emergency item of the IPU agenda, titled: “Criminalizing vilification of religions and violation of houses of worship and sanctities, and propagation of hatred among peoples, as well as the call for enhancing the values of coexistence, tolerance and international peace and security”.
H.E. the Speaker of the Qatari Advisory Council gave an exhaustive explanation of the proposal. Then interventions were made by their Excellencies, the Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council, the Speaker of the Yemeni House of Representatives, and the Speaker of the Palestine National Council, in which they praised the proposal for advocating peaceful coexistence and respect of the other.
The Meeting also listened to interventions from some delegations who all called for approving the proposal and including it in the IPU agenda items.
H.E. Mr. Munzir Bouden, Deputy Speaker of the Algerian National People’s Assembly, conveyed to the meeting greetings of Mr. Ibrahim Boughali, President of the 17th PUIC Conference. He affirmed support of the Algerian Parliament for all initiatives of the Islamic Group and its resolutions. He called for adopting a unified stand on supporting the proposal on the emergency item presented by the Qatari Advisory Council, considering it a compromise issue that brings together human values and peaceful coexistence and respect of the other.
