Secretary-General Calls for Confronting the Phenomenon of Scaremongering against Islam

UN General Assembly has designated 15th March of every year as a World Day for Combating Islamophobia, and this day is being commemorated today for the first time this year. On this occasion, His Excellency Mr. Mouhamed Khouraichi Niass, Secretary-General of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States, affirms that perpetuating this fear of Islam, which takes on dangerous dimensions every day, the latest of which was the heinous crimes of burning the Holy Qur’an in several European cities.

His Excellency the Secretary-General considers that fanaticism and insulting religious symbols will only lead to the growth of the phenomenon of violence and incitement to hatred, instead of spreading the values ​​of tolerance and understanding that our true Islamic religion calls for.

PUIC conferences have called on the States of Member Parliamets to continue their efforts to inform about our Islamic religion, and to ward off misconceptions about Islam and Muslims, and considered that the aim of this World Day is to promote global dialogue in order to spread a culture of tolerance and peace at all levels.
