Abu Dhabi Hosts Second Extraordinary PUIC Conference

The Second Extraordinary PUIC Conference was held at YAS Hotel, Abu Dhabi, UAE, on Wednesday 15th Safar 1432 H, corresponding to 19 January 2011.

The Conference was attended by (38) PUIC Member Parliaments, at the level of Speakers (16 Speakers), Deputy Speakers and Heads of Delegation. It was attended by 10 Observers and two Guests.

The inaugural session was honoured by the presence of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, on behalf of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

At the beginning, the session was presided over by H.E. Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of the Sudan who invited His Excellency Mr. Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al-Ghurair to assume the presidency due to the absence of His Excellency Mr. Edward K. Ssekandi, Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament and President of the PUIC Conference.

The inaugural session was addressed by H.E. Mahmud Erol KILIC, PUIC Secretary General and H. E. Mr. Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al-Ghurair, Speaker of the Federal National Council of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al-Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al-Khaimah, who delivered the address of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the Conference.

In its first working session, the extraordinary conference discussed the six items included in its agenda. A Number of Heads of Delegation took the floor. Their speeches contained discussion of items three to six of the conference agenda. Highlights of the agenda were:

International and regional challenges which confront the advancement and security of our Islamic World in the framework of the new developments of the peace process; preservation of Al-Quds Al-Sharif; the peaceful usage of nuclear energy in the states of the Islamic World; and dialogue and cooperation with the parliaments of Western States;

PUIC Reform;

Role of the PUIC in strengthening protection of the Christians of the East and Ensuring their Civil and Political Rights;

PUIC Role in Confronting the Project of Jewishness of the Zionist Entity and the City of Al-Quds; and

Peace process in Sudan.

In its second working session the conference adopted its Final Communiqué and Final Report.
