H.E. the PUIC Secretary General, accompanied by H.E. the Assistant secretary General, attended the 19th Regular Conference of the Arab Parliamentary Union (Arab IPU), held in the State of Kuwait, on 9-10 April 2013, under the high auspices of H.H. Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al- Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait.
The Secretary General delivered a speech at the conference in which he called for enhancing understanding among sects communities and states aimed at developing mutual respect and equality, especially between Islamic parliaments and their counterparts in the West in order to eliminate ideas of hatred.
In his speech the Secretary General stressed that the PUIC calls for tolerance and compassion, and rejects violence as well as all forms of aggression, particulary, murder, irrespective of colour, religion and race. PUIC condemnation of terrorism emanates from the fact that the latter runs counter to the precepts of Islam. He underlined that the PUIC distinguishes between terrorism, in all its manifestations, and peoples' right to resist occupation and colonization for the liberation of their homelands and the restoration of their legitimate rights which are guaranteed by international conventions.
His Excellency met on the sidelines with a number of their Excellencies the Parliament Speakers and heads of participating delegations.
