His Excellency stressed that this decision represents a flagrant violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits imposing collective punishments on civilians or carrying out forced demographic changes, and violates the UNGA resolution establishing the work of UNRWA. H.E added that through this decision, the occupation seeks to impose a fait accompli policy, whilst increasing assaults on Al-Aqsa Mosque and its systematic attempts to Judaise it, in addition to continuing crimes and arrests in Gaza and the West Bank.
H.E noted that these practices threaten to re-ignite the conflict and sabotage any ceasefire efforts, which the occupation is exploiting to expand its influence and impose more repressive measures against the Palestinians. He also stressed the need for parliaments to take urgent action before their governments and international bodies to exert pressure to stop these violations, ensure the ceasefire is maintained, and prevent the occupation from enforcing a new status quo that violates all international laws and covenants.
H.E called on the international community to take a firm stance against the aggressive settlement policies, stressing that silence towards these crimes will only aggravate the situation and pave the way for greater violence and instability in the entire region.
H.E concluded his letter by calling on the Speakers of national, regional and international parliaments to exert all possible efforts to condemn the crimes of the occupation and support the struggle of the Palestinian people to achieve their legitimate rights, foremost of which is their right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state with Al-Quds as its capital.
