Arab IPU Calls for Urgent Action to End Starvation in Gaza

In a statement issued on 24 August 2025 by H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Boughali, President of the Arab Interparliamentary Union (AIPU) and Speaker of the People’s National Assembly of Algeria, the AIPU expressed its deep concern over Gaza’s official entry into a state of starvation, as defined by the United Nations standards, warning of the catastrophic humanitarian consequences resulting from the continued blockade imposed on the Palestinian people.

The statement reaffirmed that international humanitarian law strictly prohibits the use of starvation as a method of warfare, stressing that the suffering inflicted upon civilians in Gaza constitutes both a war crime and a crime against humanity under international law.

The AIPU called upon the international community to take urgent and immediate action to compel the occupying power to open the corridors and allow the entry of humanitarian aid without restriction or condition, thereby protecting the Palestinian people’s right to a dignified life and protecting them from an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.
