The Islamic Group held its regular Consultation Meeting on Sunday 21 October 2012, from 13:30hr to 15:00hr, at the Convention Center, Quebec, Canada, on the sidelines of the 127th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The Meeting was chaired by H.E. the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Morocco, Mr. Karim Ghallab, and the participation of more than 150 of members of the delegations attending the IPU meetings. The meeting was also attended by H.E. the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Yemen H.E. Mr. Yahya Ali AL-Raee.
At the beginning, H.E. PUIC Secretary General Prof. Mahmud Erol KILIC gave a briefing on the subject of the meeting. Then the participants discussed the items of their agenda, which included “Adopting a unified position on issues of common concern for the Islamic Group included in the agenda of the 127th IPU Assembly. The participants agreed to support the agenda item proposed by Federal National Council of the United Arab Emirates on “The international role of parliamentarians in prohibiting the defamation of religions and the desecration of religious symbols and shrines by contributing to the conclusion of an international agreement on the criminalization of such actions, and by recognizing respect for religions as a prerequisite to international peace, understanding and cooperation.”
