The Committee of Experts on the preparation of a Draft Islamic Parliamentary Declaration held its second meeting at the Raffles Hotel in Dubai, State of the United Arab Emirates, on 17 and 18 June 2012, in response to the kind invitation of H.E. Mr. Mohammad Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council.
Delegations representing eight member parliaments of the Committee participated in the proceedings, namely, people’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Republic of Cameroon, Republic of Indonesia, Islamic Republic of Iran, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Republic of Senegal, Republic of Turkey and the State of the United Arab Emirates.
Following the report of His Excellency the Secretary General Prof. Mahmud Erol KILIC, the Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council, Mr. Mohammad Ahmed Al Mur, was invited to address the meeting.
Mr. Al Murr focused on two frameworks of action. The first related to multiteral and bilateral relations among Muslim states. The second one concerns relations with others, whether in the context of dialogue between civilizations and cultures, non-offending of the symbols of our True religion and denying any linkage between Islam and terrorism.
He also stressed the necessity for the Islamic Parliamentary Declaration to include some significant basics, namely agreement on methodology to address the causes of the Islamic World; realizing PUIC effectiveness through cooperation and cohesion with the OIC.
