On the Sidelines of the IPU Meetings: Islamic Group Holds Consultation Meeting, PUIC Secretary General Calls for Confronting Important World Issues

The Islamic Group held its Consultation Meeting on the Sidelines of the 126th IPU Assembly, on Saturday
31 March 2012, from 10:00 to 12:00, at Sunflower Room, Imperial Royal Hotel, Speke Munyonyo Resort, Kampala, Republic of Uganda.
The Consultation Meeting was chaired firstly by H.E. Mr.Ahmed A. Al-Saadoum, Speaker of the National Assembly of Kuwait and later on by H.E. Sheikh Khalid Bin Hilal Bin Nasir Al Maawali, President of the Consultative Council of Sultanate of Oman.
At the outset, H.E. PUIC Secretary General Prof. Mahmud Erol KILIC gave a briefing on the meeting. The attendees then discussed the items of the agenda, which included, Adopting a unified position regarding issues of common concern for the Islamic Group on the Agenda Items of the 126th  Assembly Meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Fourteen PUIC Member Parliaments took part in the Consultation Meeting, namely those of:
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, State of Kuwait, Republic of Uganda, UAE, Kingdom of Bahrain, State of Qatar, Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Iraq, Syrian Arab Republic, Kingdom of Morocco, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Arab Republic of Egypt, People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria and the State of Palestine.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held its 126th Assembly and Related Meetings from 1 to 5 April 2012.
The PUIC Secretary General Prof. Mahmud Erol KILIC delivered an exhaustive speech at the IPU meetings in which he addressed several significant issues on the international arena and the role of Parliaments in tackling these issues. His Excellency stated that,” there is a dire need for parliaments and peoples to play a concrete role in bridging the gap-be it political, economic or social – in order to defuse tension and disputes to establish security and peace.”
