The Islamic Group held its Consultative Meeting on the sidelines of the 124th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), at 17.00hrs on 15/4/2011, at the international convention center in Panama City, in Panama.
The Consultative Meeting was chaired the Speaker of the Algerian Parliament His Excellency Mr. Ziari, and attended by the honorable Speakers of Sudan, Morocco and Kuwait. Other delegations of PUIC Member Parliaments took part in the meeting, as well as the PUIC Secretary General H.E. Professor Mahmud Erol KILIC.
The Draft Agenda of the meeting included an item on adopting a unified stand on issues of common concern to the Islamic Parliamentary Group.
The Consultative Meeting discussed a number of topics before the IPU 124th Assembly. The meeting considered the way to coordinate the positions of the Member Parliaments on supporting the Japanese people and parliament in their effort to cope with the devastating disaster of earthquake and tsunami which afflicted Japan recently.
It is worth mentioning that the proceedings of the 124th Assembly of the IPU took place in Panama City on 15-20 April 2011.
