We have followed with the utmost concern the criminal attempts by some extremist Zionists, assisted by the Israeli occupation forces, aimed at endangering the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as the endeavours to judaize the city of Al-Quds Al- Sharif which contains extremely important Islamic sanctities for Muslims.
It would be historically erroneous if the Israeli occupation authorities contemplated, even for a single instant, that the Islamic and Arab world would neglect or relinquish Al-Quds Al-Sharif with its religious sanctities which captivate the hearts of Muslims and Arabs.
The aggression and storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque cannot be viewed in isolation of events that confirm that the Israeli occupation is intentionally perpetrating such acts which form a single chain of aggression. In doing this, the Israeli occupation is encouraged by certain irresponsible powers which are not concerned with the prevalence of durable peace in the region. Peace is not capitulation, though Arabs and Muslims desire peace, as evidenced by the initiative of the Arab Summit, held in Beirut in 2002, yet they will never capitulate to any Israeli aggressive plans that impinge on their lands or sanctities.
The events whose chapters are unfolding before our eyes these days i.e. the aggression launched by Zionist settlers against Al-Aqsa Mosque since the morning of 27 September, are meant to show the extent of Zionist insistence on their settlement in Al-Quds and to maintain this issue as a top priority in the project of the Israeli occupation.
We would like to emphasize the following points which have already been decided by the PUIC:
1- Condemning these Israeli aggressive practices against worshippers in Al-Aqsa Mosque and violation of the inviolability of Islamic sanctities, as well as the Israeli excavations under and around the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque. Calling on international organizations and institutions concerned, especially UNESCO, to shoulder their responsibilities for preserving Islamic and Christian holy shrines in the holy city.
2- Denouncing Israeli measures which contradict International Law, which commits Israel, as the occupation authority, not to harm religious sacred shrines; as well as denouncing Israel’s persistence in obstructing the implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions 242, 426 and 478 which confirm that Eastern Al-Quds is situated within the lands occupied in 1967.
3- Requesting the United Nations to assume its obligation and take the necessary measures to preserve the properties of the refugees of Palestine in accordance with a proper implementable mechanism in order to preclude disposing of these properties and to be in harmony with the provision of the UN General Assembly Resolution 194, and in implementation of the right of return which is one of the most outstanding provisions for any just and comprehensive solution to the Arab – Israeli conflict.
