The International Symposium on the “Challenge Role of Parliaments in the Budget Process: Experiences of PUIC Countries and EU Member States”, was opened on 23 September 2010 in Afyon Karahisar in the Republic of Turkey,
This International Symposium is organized by the Turkish Grand National Assembly, PUIC, and the European Union.
A large number of members of the Turkish Grand Assembly, senior officials of the Turkish government, and a number of academics and university professors attended this meeting. The Turkish Prime Minister His Excellency Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other ministers sent messages wishing success for the symposium.
In his Speech, His Excellency Mr. / Mehmet Ali Şahin , Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of the symposium in transferring experiences of the participants in the preparation of budgets and promotion the role of parliaments in transparency and control.
The Secretary General of PUIC addressed a speech in which he praised the subject of the Symposium, pointing out the importance of the role of parliaments in the budget and in the achievement of the fiscal discipline.
Its note worth mentioning that Twenty-eight Member Parliaments and a number of Observers participated in this Symposium which is the first experience of PUIC to hold a joint meeting with EU through a member parliament (Turkish Grand National assembly).
