AIPU Reaffirms Commitment to Human Rights Principles on Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, H.E. Mr Brahim Boughali, President of the Arab Interparliamentary Union and Speaker of the Algerian People's National Assembly, issued a statement on 10 December 2024, reaffirming AIPU's proud commitment to the fundamental role of human rights in building societies founded on justice and fairness.

In its statement, AIPU stressed the importance of enhancing international efforts to protect fundamental rights in view of the current challenges. AIPU also reiterated its firm commitment to human rights principles, and called on parliaments to honour their pivotal role in protecting freedoms, promoting social justice, and fighting all forms of discrimination and violence.

AIPU also called on the international community to take a strong and decisive stance towards the ongoing human rights violations, especially those against the Palestinian people, stressing that upholding human dignity is a necessary duty and the only way to achieve a comprehensive peace.
