Arab Interparliamentary Union Welcomes Madrid Joint Statement

On September 17, 2024, the Presidency of the Arab Interparliamentary Union (AIPU) issued a statement in which H.E. Mr. Brahim Boughali, Speaker of the People's National Assembly of Algeria and President of the Arab Interparliamentary Union, welcomed the Madrid Joint Statement on the Palestinian issue and the two-state solution, which was issued on September 13, 2024.

The Arab Interparliamentary Union praised the Madrid statement, particularly with regards to the Palestinian Authority's control of the Rafah crossing, the Philadelphia corridor and the rest of the borders, in addition to the full withdrawal of the occupation forces from the Gaza Strip. The Arab Interparliamentary Union further considered that these steps marked tangible progress towards achieving justice and peace for the Palestinian people.

The Arab Interparliamentary Union renewed its calls for the opening of humanitarian crossings and the urgent delivery of medical supplies and food aid to the impacted Palestinian areas. AIPU also urged all parties involved to adhere to the rulings of the International Court of Justice and to recognize the State of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.

The statement concluded by emphasizing the need to oblige the Zionist entity to respect international law and stop its continuous violations, in order to ensure the rights of the Palestinian people to enjoy freedom and establish their independent state with Al-Quds as its capital.
