REPORT OF THE 6th MEETING OF THE STANDING SPECIALIZED COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RIGHTS, WOMEN AND FAMILY

TEHRAN – ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN

SUNDAY 14, JANUARY, 2018

1.    The 6th meeting of the Standing Specialized Committee on Human Rights, Women and Family held its 6th Meeting in Tehran – Islamic Republic of Iran on 26 Rabi Thani, 1439, corresponding to 14 January 2018 was opened with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. In the beginning, the Committee elected H. E. Mrs. Govhar Bakhshaliyeva, member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as Rapporteur.

2.    The Meeting was attended by their Excellences from the Assemblies members of the Committee:

The meeting was also attended by a number of non-member Assemblies of the Committee (Afghanistan, Comoros, Iran, the Kingdom of Morocco and the Syrian Arab Republic), and by ICRC observers in the Committee, according to the attached list.

3.    The working session was opened with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. On behalf of His Excellency the Secretary General of the PUIC, Professor Dr. Mahmud Erol KILIC, His Excellency Ambassador Siddig Yousif ABU-AGLA opened the proceedings of the meeting of the Committee and welcomed the Committee members to whom he conveyed greetings and best wishes of success in their deliberations.

4.    The 14 item Agenda was adopted after having been discussed by the Committee’s women and men members who unanimously approved the draft resolutions enclosed herewith and which will be submitted to the PUIC Conference for adoption.

5.    Mr. Marc Achermann, ICRC Deputy Head of Mission, made a presentation where he proposed to cooperate with the Member Parliaments in order to play an effective role in preventing any hostile acts against the delivery of medical aid by means of the development of local laws and legislations.

6.    The Committee stresses the need to implement the resolutions issued during the current and previous sessions and kindly requests the Member Parliaments to report to the Secretariat-General, on a periodic basis, on the progress achieved in the implementation of the Committee’s Resolutions, in order to disseminate these reports, make use of their content and incorporate them into follow-up reports.
