REPORT THE 5th MEETING OF THE STANDING SPECIALIZED COMMITTEE ON HUMAN RIGHTS, WOMEN AND FAMILY

1.    The Standing Specialized Committee on Human Rights, Women and Family held its 5th Meeting in Bamako – Republic of Mali on 25 Rabi ul Thani, 1438, corresponding to 24 January. 2017 The Committee elected H.E. Mrs. Al-Ain Taghreed Hikmat, Member of the  Jordanian Senate, as Rapporteur.

The meeting was also attended by a number of non-member parliaments of the Committee (Cameroon, Iraq, the Sudan, Togo), according to the enclosed list.
3.    His Excellency the Secretary General of the PUIC, Professor Dr. Mahmud Erol KILIC opened the meeting of the Committee and appointed Ambassador Siddig Yousif ABU-AGLA, Director of Cabinet, to act on his behalf. Ambassador ABU-AGLA welcomed the members of the Committee wishing them success in their deliberations. He continued to represent the General Secretariat in the proceedings of the Committee.
4.    The Meeting reviewed the Agenda and discussed its items (attached). The discussion included constructive and fruitful interventions by the members, which led in conclusion to the adoption of the enclosed draft resolutions for submission to the august PUIC Conference for adoption.
5.    The Committee listened to an intervention by Mrs. Mary Louise Tocas, Representative of the International Committee of the Red Crescent (ICRC) in which she highlighted the humanitarian activities of the ICRC and expressed readiness to cooperate with the PUIC on the fields of the displaced and health affairs. The Committee recommended to consider concluding a MoU with the ICRC on humanitarian affairs.
6.    The Committee stressed the importance of implementing the resolutions adopted in its current and previous sessions, and requests the Member Parliaments to inform on the steps taken on the follow-up and send reports to the General Secretariat about what has been implemented in a regular manner so that they may be circulated and make use of their experiences.
