    The General Secretariat of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States presents its compliments to all the august Member Parliaments and with reference to our Note No. MP-126IPU/12-012,  dated 8th February, 2012, and the Consultation Meeting of the Islamic Group along the side lines of the 126th Assembly of the IPU,  has the honour to remind that the said Meeting will be held in Sunflower Room, fourth floor of the Imperial Royale hotel, Kampala, Saturday 31st March, 2012 from 10.00 to 12.00 Hours.

    The General Secretariat while enclosing the second Revised Draft Agenda for this meeting requests the Member Parliaments to send as early as possible any agenda items they wish to discuss or get the supports of the PUIC Member Parliaments during the IPU meeting.

The PUIC General Secretariat would like to draw the attention of the august Member Parliaments to resolution No. 16-PE/13-CNCL which: “Invites all Member Parliaments to participate effectively in meetings of the Islamic Parliamentary Consultative Group in order to take its resolutions into consideration”.    

The General Secretariat of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States avails itself of this opportunity to renew to all the august Member Parliaments, the assurances of its highest consideration.

DRAFT AGENDA OF
THE CONSULTATION MEETING OF THE ISLAMIC GROUP
SATURDAY 31st March, 2012

VENUE: SUNFLOWER ROOM, fourth floor of the Imperial Royale hotel, KAMPALA.
TIME:     10.00 to 12.00 Hours.


1.    Adoption of the Draft Agenda.
2.    Brief by the Secretary General on the meeting.
3.    Adopting a unified position regarding issues of common concern for the Islamic Group on the following Agenda Items of the 126th  Assembly Meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Union:-
3.1    Election of the President and Vice-Presidents of the 126th Assembly. (Proposed by IPU)
3.2     Consideration of possible requests for the inclusion of an emergency item in the Assembly agenda:-
3.2.1    Promoting an inter-parliamentary contribution to the efforts of the United Nations, the Arab League, the Gulf Cooperation Council and international efforts to halt the bloodshed and killing in Syria, and forging an inter-parliamentary initiative based on respect for international law and international humanitarian law. (Proposed by United Arab Emirates to the IPU)
3.2.2    The Syrian Golan, occupied since 1967 (Proposed by Syrian Arab Republic to the IPU)
3.2.3    The role of parliamentarians in strengthening regional and international efforts to halt the violence and killing in Syria and to support the Arab League Plan for a peaceful transition of power (Proposed by Egypt to the IPU)
3.2.4    The situation in Syria (proposed by Canada to the IPU).
3.3    Relationship of sustainable use of management of water resources with food security (proposed by United Arab Emirates for consideration at the 128th Assembly of the IPU – Second Standing Committee).
3.4       General debate on the political, economic and social situation in the world with the overall theme of Parliaments and people: Bridging the gap. (Proposed by IPU)
3.5     Promoting and practicing good governance as a means of advancing peace and security: Drawing lessons from recent events in the Middle East and North Africa (First Standing Committee on Peace and International Security) (Proposed by IPU)
3.6     Redistribution of power, not just wealth: Ownership of the international agendas (Second Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, Finance and Trade) (Proposed by IPU)
3.7     Access to health as a basic right: The role of parliaments in addressing key challenges to securing the health of women and children (Third Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights) (Proposed by IPU)
3.8       Approval of the subject items for the 128th Assembly and appointment of the Rapporteurs. (Proposed by IPU)

4.    Any other business.
