The Executive Committee Meets in Islamabad

The PUIC Executive Committee held its 34th Meeting at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, Islamic Republic of Pakistan, on 7-8 September 2015, in response to a kind invitation extended by the National Assembly of Pakistan.
The Meeting was attended by members of the Committee who were representatives of the parliaments of the following states: Algeria, Chad, Iran, Iraq, Cote D’Ivoire, Lebanon, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. A delegation from the Federal National Council of the UAE also attended the Meeting in order to be present for discussion on the Draft PUIC Charter on Combating Terrorism and Extremism in the capacity of guests.
The opening session was chaired by H.E. Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Pakistani National Assembly. The Session was addressed by the Head of the Delegation of Pakistan and the PUIC Secretary General.
In the First Working Session the Meeting considered the items included in its Agenda. There was exhaustive discussion on the Draft PUIC Charter on Combating Terrorism and Extremism. Also the Committee updated the agendas of the Standing Specialized committees, Subsidiary Organs, as well as the agendas of the General Committee and the 11th Session of the PUIC Conference.
In the Closing Session H.E. the Deputy Speaker, who was also the Acting Speaker, Mr. Mortadha Javid Abbasi, took the floor. In this session the Islamabad Declaration was read. The ten operative paragraphs of the Declaration included the necessity of addressing the root causes of the phenomenon of terrorism, and the importance of PUIC role in protecting the interests of the Muslim Ummah on such issues as Islamophobia, defamation of religion, and the treatment of Muslims, particularly in non-Muslim Countries.
