In implementation of the Resolution adopted by the
9th Session of the PUIC Council, the Islamic Group held a consultation meeting on the sidelines of the
120th Assembly of the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at 8:30 am, Monday 6
th April 2009 in Hall No.6 of the UN Centre for International Conferences.
The meeting was chaired by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Yemen and attended by representatives of the Member Parliaments of the following states:
• State of the United Arab Emirates
• Republic of Turkey
• Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
• Islamic Republic of Iran
• Kingdom of Morocco
• Kingdom of Bahrain
• Republic of Cameroon
• Republic of Indonesia
• Republic of Yemen
• Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan
• Syrian Arab Republic
• People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria
• Islamic State of Afghanistan
• Republic of Iraq
• Republic of Togo
• Republic of Mali
• Sultanate of Oman
• State of Kuwait ( Represented by the Secretary General of the National Assembly)
• State of Palestine
• Republic of the Sudan
• Malaysia
• Secretary General of the Arab Parliamentary Union
Deliberations focused on the Emergency Item of the IPU agenda. The UAE representative submitted a proposal in this regard. Other proposals thereon were submitted by representatives of the Sultanate of Oman and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The attendees addressed the matter from several angles and sought to coordinate as regards the way of following up the demands of the Islamic Group in the Plenary Sessions of the IPU in coordination with the geographical groups.
In the conclusion of the deliberations, the attendees mandated the Speaker of the Omani Consultative Council and President of the Arab Parliamentary Union H.E. Ahmed Bin Mohammad Al Eisaee with the task of pursuing negotiations with parliamentary delegations attending the IPU session in Addis Ababa and perform appropriate action in support of the Palestinian cause and speak on behalf of the Islamic Group.
